To demonstrate the capabilities of UWB in logical access control scenarios, MobileKnowledge developed a demonstrator to showcase how UWB can be used for PC login/logout at CES 2023.
UWB technology promises to deliver a seamless, hands-free user experience on physical and logical access control systems.
To demonstrate the capabilities of UWB in logical access control scenarios, MobileKnowledge developed a demonstrator to showcase how UWB can be used for PC login/logout. In this demonstrator, the PC, which integrates a UWB module, is able to detect and connect to nearby UWB-enabled smartphones through Bluetooth LE to validate the login credential and exchange UWB ranging parameters. At the end, a ranging session is set up against the smartphone. Based on the relative distance between the smartphone and the PC, the demonstrator is able to seamlessly login and logout the user from its PC. Moreover, thanks to UWB radar capabilities, the demonstrator is able to detect if a person is in front of the PC or not. Based on this, the PC can lock the screen as soon as the user leaves the PC, even if the user has accidentally left the smartphone close to the PC.
The functionality of the logical access demonstrator was showcased by NXP at CES this year in Las Vegas. You can check out the demo video in the following link.
Thanks to NXP and Peter Pirc for trusting MobileKnowledge with the design, development and validation of new use cases linked to UWB technology.
